2)Satir’s Growth model
Satir(1972) suggested that self-esteem, communication, and family rules would determine personal and familial functions. Especially, she emphasized self-esteem and self-worth for basic and therapeutic concepts in this model. Self-esteem is the belief about self by evaluating own attributes. When people can satisfy their desires by using their own resources, and feel that they are deserved to do that, self-esteem will be formed. Therefore, it is related to attachment, love, trust, and respect for one’s own self. Satir considered self esteem as a basic desire and energy for overcoming difficulties in reality creatively, and also she supposed that this energy can be created by appreciating and loving own self. Due to these factors, she suggested that the prior purpose of Growth model is enhancing self-esteem.

Rationale for the use of such theoretical orientation
Usually, parents of children with mental retardation show lower level of self-esteem than parents of children with no mental retardation. They even feel guilty about mental retardation of their children, and also they can’t care about themselves because they spend all time taking care of their children. So they have lack of stability and decreased self-esteem, and these have a bad influence upon their way of bringing up children. To prevent this vicious circle, it’s important for parents of children with mental retardation to overcome their helplessness and negative self-evaluation and recover their self-esteem.
3)Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
Rational-Emotive-Behavior Therapy(REBT) is a type of psychotherapy which focuses on resolving emotional and behavior problems. REBT is based on the premise that whenever we become upset, it is not the events taking place in our lives that upsets us; it is the beliefs that we hold that causes us to become depressed, anxious, enraged, etc. REBT posits that our reactions (that blocks our goals) is determined by our beliefs.
Rationale for implementing Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
Parents of disabled children get more stress than parents of normal children. REBT technique can correct their irrational thinking pattern so that their stress management skills can be efficient.
4)Progressive relaxation technique
Progressive relaxation technique is one of the most popular treatments of physical stress disorders. Progressive relaxation teaches people how to relax and how to become aware of unnecessary muscle tension. By reducing chronically over tense muscles, people could better cope with stress.

Rationale for implementing the relaxation technique
Parents of children with mental retardation experience many stressful events in everyday life. This technique can teach them ways that lead to quick and effective stress management.
5)Mindfulness meditation
Mindfulness meditation intends to step outside habitual thoughts patterns and automatic thoughts. Mindfulness meditation helps us let go of unnecessary attachment to prior judgment and automatic thoughts that limit perception. It helps people become a better problem solver because people can see a broader picture and think creatively to come up with more effective solutions.
